VACANCY: CONSULAR / ENTRY CLEARANCE ASSISTANT
AT THE BRITISH EMBASSY, PHNOM PENH



The British Embassy in Phnom Penh has a vacancy for a Consular/Entry Clearance Assistant.
The post provides consular services to British and other EU and Commonwealth nationals for
whom we have consular responsibility, and handling visa applications. Responsibilities include
visiting prisoners, assisting those requiring hospital treatment, dealing with deaths, providing
notarial services, managing fees, and answering a range of customer enquiries. The job requires
excellent inter-personal skills and an ability to work well with Cambodian national authorities. The job offers many personal development opportunities, and training will be provided as necessary.

It is a requirement of the job that you should be available one week in three, as part of a duty
rota, to deal with cases that arise out of office hours (evenings/nights, weekends and public holidays).

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (Selection Criteria): The successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in a role working with the general public, preferably in an international context;
  • Demonstrate numeracy, and be fluent in written and spoken English and Khmer and an excellent communicator;
  • Be competent in using Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc).
The successful candidate will also demonstrate that s/he:

  • Is responsible, proactive and flexible, and able to work well both in a team and independently;
  • Is able to work in distressing environments – this job will include visits to the mortuary, prisons and hospitals;
  • Can deal with a range of customers, many of whom are distressed, and manage customers' expectations;
  • Is trustworthy, and understands how to manage sensitive and personal information;
  • Has no adverse immigration history, as there is a need to travel outside Cambodia from time to time.
